Allahabad, March 21, 2025 – The High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Allahabad, has unanimously passed a resolution condemning the “arbitrary, biased, and high-handed” conduct of a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court. The resolution, adopted in a General Body Meeting on Thursday, has intensified discussions on judicial accountability.
The HCBA alleges that the judge has repeatedly issued prejudicial orders, particularly against advocates and Bar members, including directions for FIRs and coercive actions without granting affected parties a hearing. Calling these actions a violation of natural justice, the association has urged the Chief Justice of the High Court to remove judicial work from the concerned judge pending an inquiry. It further warned of protests and boycotts if no action is taken.
While the judge’s name was not disclosed, legal insiders attribute the move to recent controversial courtroom orders. The HCBA clarified that its stand is not against the judiciary but aims to uphold advocates' dignity and constitutional values.
The association has also called upon the Chief Justice of India to address judicial accountability, emphasizing the risks of unchecked power. A General House meeting has been scheduled for March 24, 2025 (Monday) at 1:15 PM in the Library Hall, urging all members to participate in discussions concerning the judiciary's integrity.
